Culture and tradition shine through in the dance and music of Mexico. Mexican dance takes a very big part in celebrations such as coming-of-age parties, religious events and many other celebrations. Mexican dance is a very colorful and breathtaking art. The colored skirts that the women wear were inspired by an Indian princess named Mirra who was kidnapped and taken to Mexico to be sold as a slave. Her colorful clothing left an impression on the women and the started copying her. The men wore black suits with metallic embroidery on them. The pants had silver buttons up and down the sides. The dancers move swiftly around the floor spinning and twirling. There are many breathtaking dances in mexico.
The Jarabe Tapatío, The Mexican Hat Dance. A woman and a man dance together, starting with flirting through dance. The woman rejects the man and then during the dance she rejects him again. The dance is finished when the woman agrees to kiss the man behind his hat. This dance was ban because of some of the dance moves that were performed during the dance, they thought that the dance was to suggestive. There are some dances that have been around for a long time like La Danza Del Venado.
La Danza Del Venado, the deer dance. It is a native dance from Sonora in northern Mexico. The dance has changed very little over the centuries because the people preserved their land during the Spanish conquest in Mexico. It is still very popular in Mexico because it hasn’t changed. The dancers recreate the dramatic deer hunt and to honor the white tailed deer. The music during the dance comes from traditional instruments like the reed flute, rattles and many others. The people playing these instruments also chant. The dances in Mexico are old and haven’t changed and newer ones that have. No matter how old the dances are they are still amazing.
The dances in Mexico are a very big part in traditions and celebrations. No matter how old or new the dance is it is still amazing and colorful. Dance is something that will always be a part of Mexican culture and tradition.
