¡Feliz Quinceañera! A Quinceañera is a giant celebration when a girl turns 15. It is celebrated with everyone that is special in this girl’s life, friends, brothers, sisters, cousins and everyone else. It’s a marking to the girl’s passage to womanhood,it thanks god for his blessing and presents the young woman to the world. The celebration has many different parts.
It first starts with a Misa de acción de gracias. They all sit in front of the altar at the church and the young woman is wearing a pink or white formal dress. The godparents give her lovely gifts and jewelry to wear with the dress. Her maids of honor and escorts are grouped by the different stages of life that the young woman has completed. These people are usually family or close family friends. After the mass the woman leaves bouquets of flowers for the virgin of guadalupe. The female family members hand out small gifts to everyone who went. Lots of photos are taken for everyone. Than the party starts!
The wealthy family members would pay for the girl to go to england but now the help with the girls studies, social life and work. The parents, godparents, grandparents and others make sure that the party is the ultimate over the top experience. They hire a live band that plays all sorts of music old and new for everyone to dance to. The cake is a big part of the party. It is giant, shaped like the dress the girl wears and is very beautifully decorated. There is also a huge feast also to celebrate the young woman’s youth. During the feast the parents, grandparents and godparents give their advice and wisdom to the young woman. The party usually lasts around six hours. The dancing begins when the father or primary escort and daughter waltz around the dance floor.
